The movie production for "Ten Year" (I believe) has taken over most of our parking lot behind the office. This has become pretty standard fare since New Mexico has become Tamalewood, as part of the film-making exodus from Hollywood known as "runaway production". I can't complain too much about this latest parking lot take over, since they left a few spaces for regular parking — I can generally get the space I normally park in, but there is no guarantee. As I was leaving tonight, they had lights and other equipment set up outside the Hotel Andaluz, obviously filming inside.
Albuquerque has some of the largest sound studios in the country, and Marvel Studios is going to occupy every available production space for most of the year to film "The Avengers" according to the Albuquerque Journal. I assume the parking lot behind our building is one of those "available production spaces", since it's been pretty popular for staging and/or filming most of the major motion pictures and TV series they've filmed in Albuquerque over the past three or four years.
Interestingly enough, with all the movies that have had scenes shot downtown, at the restaurant next door, behind our building, across the street, etc., the only one I've seen is "Wild Hogs" with John Travolta, Tim Allen, Martin Lawrence and William Macy. I enjoyed that film, but I haven't seen many movies in the past couple of years, so the others are on the "to be seen" list. I was really curious to see "Gamer" then I watched the trailers on Youtube, which showed most of the scenes shot behind our office, and I lost interest after that.
Now that I know Marvel is taking over Albuquerque in the next month or two, I will be better prepared to give up my parking space. They will be looking for extras starting next month, maybe I should apply to be a cranky extra. Tamalewood meets El Cheo.
