We celebrated Reyes or the Epiphany tonight. We began celebrating the 6th of January when we lived in Spain at the end of the 1990s, and have continued celebrating it ever since. Laurie makes a large pot of thick Spanish hot chocolate, we put out tapas and people come over to celebrate with us by eating tapas and chocolate. One friend was very clever and brought frankincense, myrrh, a small clay dish with gold on it, and Three Kings Charcoal to burn the spices. Tristan crushed and mixed the frankincense and myrrh together with a mortar and pestle and burned it on the charcoal in the clay dish. The result was a lot of smoke and an interesting scent. Quite a fun experience that really added to the celebration.
Sorry I had to miss this.
ReplyDeleteWasn't the sunset both gorgeous and unexpected? I don't where you took this photo, but it looks very much like sunset from this side of town. A wonderful explosion of color on what otherwise had been a rather drab day.
We missed seeing you guys. I photographed the sunset from the roof of the house. As I was coming home, watching the sun slowly go down through the thin layer of clouds, I figured the sunset was going to be good.
