Assignment 4 (a Festival)

We went outside for the break between the first and second Medieval lectures, and there was a bubble machine blowing out bubbles from the top of the emergency kiosk, a cardboard photo booth, a punching booth, painting stations, a piñata, music playing and several young people participating in the various activities. I asked one of the one young women what was going on, and she explained it was an art class assignment. I interviewed a few other participants from the class and they explained the various attractions.

A young man was very proud of the "pot luck" he'd organized, and explained how the punching booth worked. "See that girl in the yellow and white stripes? Give her some money and she will get in the booth and punch you!" So it was literally a booth that punches! I told him I wasn't into paying people to punch me out, even though she was a pretty young woman. He laughed and said there seemed to be plenty of masochists around that like being hit. It wasn't long before a couple of young men were getting punched.

One girl came out of the art building wearing a gas mask and a phallus. I asked her if she was making a commentary on anything in particular. She lifted her gas mask to reveal a very pretty face and shyly said "No! I ended up being the naked man!"

I'm not sure what the piñata represented, it looked like a tooth to me, but a little boy and a couple of the girls finally beat it up enough to get the candy out. One of the couples attending the medieval lectures got into the photo booth and showed us the result. The students made a stick figure sketch of the couple. It was really cute.

The lectures were great, but gave too much information to summarize at this hour, so they'll have to wait for another day.
