Hanging of the Greens

What does a spider web have to do with hanging of the greens at UNM? Nothing other than we discovered it while participating in the event tonight.

The hanging of the greens is a luminaria tour of UNM. A group of jesters, representing one of the many student organizations on campus, lead the large group of people who had gathered at the Bookstore around the campus on the way to the President's house. One of the jesters tonight was Sir GaGa.

Celebrities, such as Louie and Lucy Lobo and Santa Claus, hammed it up as the crowd sang Christmas carols. While singing out front of Zimmerman Library, Louie was  directing and dancing, while a spider girl crawled up between a wall and a column in the background.

I got a hug from Lucy Lobo tonight, which was kind of special. We have a Louie and Lucy shrine on my old bonsai shelves at the office. I'm not much of a sports fan, but I am a fan of the Lobo's mascots. Actually, who can't like a football team that finished its season 1-11 for the second year in a row. The university is going to try for for 0-12 next year, as the coach is staying on for another year.

At the Presidents house there were homemade biscochitos, hot apple cider, hot chocolate and other snacks. A sax quartet played in the ballroom, while people laid around on the floor listening. We met the Vice President of student affairs who stood in for President Schmidly, who is recovering from surgery.

After the quartet finished playing, we made our way back to the car, slowed down by the enticing photos along the way.
